A Grammar of Belizean Creole: Complications from Two Existing United States Dialects (Berkeley Models of Grammars, Vol. 7)
Published in Hardcover by Peter Lang Publishing (June, 1999)
Average review score:

A terrific compendium on a difficult subjectThis is the most comprehensive work to date on the obscure study of Belizean Creole I have encountered. This is a MUST for all students of the creole languaguage and creole enthusiasts the world over. While the subject may be daunting to the unfamiliar, the author does a superb job of explaining the intricacies of Creole languages. This is appropriate for both the academic and lay reader particularly the section on the social use of language.

Hands of the Maya: Villagers at Work and Play
Published in Hardcover by Henry Holt & Company, Inc. (01 June, 2002)
Average review score:

Warm, engaging, and informative book!Beautifully photographed and engagingly written, this is a thoughtful portrayal of the Mayan people presented as a day-in-the-life, and focusing on a lifestyle where hands still do the work (instead of dishwashers, food processors, etc!) It would be a wonderful gift book for a young child, or a great classroom supplement for a pre-K through 2nd grade class focusing on the Americas, community, indigenous peoples... or even the human body!

Inside Belize
Published in Paperback by Interhemispheric Resource Center (October, 1995)
Average review score:

One of the only books you'll find with in depth infoIf you're looking to travel to Belize for lesisure or study, this book is a required read. With much more information than you can find in ANY travel guide, this book was used for a college class I took in 1997-98. This book includes information on politics & government, the economy, society & ethnicity, social forces, environment and foreign influences! Thats quite a bit of info for such a tiny country, and Barry tells it well. In my opinion, this book is the best reference available on Belize. Even if you're just a casual traveler to this country, you can benefit from knowing so much about it. If you've ever travelled somewhere and wondered about that places' political or historical background, a book like this will answer all of those questions and probably more. And as for the country of Belize, it's truly a gem!

The Living Maya : The Mopan and Q´eqchi´ of the Toledo District, Belize - Central America (PC - CD-ROM)
Published in CD-ROM by MayaViewkeeper (25 July, 2001)
Average review score:

A Virtual Experience of the Mayan Culture! The videos and sounds accompanying the text allows the viewer to experience the Myan environment and culture in a virtual sense. I felt as if I had been transported in spirit to the culture of the Mopan and Q'eqchi Maya of the Toledo District of Belize. The superb photography in each section, the Elder stories, the selection of the topics, such as their arts and crafts, agriculture, traditions, stories, folktales and much more describing the daily life of the Maya today, as well as their history, provides a wonderful, entertaining and important journey backward and forward in time simultaneously. The users guide with its basic and advanced questions is a great educational tool and fun to use. It is like being introduced to a piece of history and a group of people who are living that history in the 21st century. What an unusual experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this journey. It is one I will take over and over again!

Lonely Planet Diving & Snorkeling Belize (2nd Ed)
Published in Paperback by Pisces Books (September, 1998)
Average review score:

A Diver's CookbookDiving and Snorkeling in Belize is for divers - as a pictured cookbook is for hungry people... A very good source for divers, novice through advanced. The Book starts by covering some basics for every tourist to Belize, then moves on to an overview of Belize as a scuba-diver's wonder-world. Following, all sites are described explicitly. The site descriptions include easy-to-follow rankings of expertise required and characteristics, as depth, currents, visibility, etc., and directions to unique attractions in each site. Throughout, beautiful pictures enhance this coverage. The book definitely played a part in the decision to visit Belize, and for divers - is a recommended addition to the Lonely Planet reference to this region.

Mangos & More: A Rough Guide to Local Fruit Trees and Flowers in Belize
Published in Paperback by Carne Publishing (15 September, 2002)
Average review score:

Great Stuff on Plants in BelizeThis little book provides excellent photos and short descriptions of native and non-native plants in Belize. Thus, Mangoes & More is one of "the" books to buy if you are going to Belize and interested to learn more about local fruit trees and flowers. Or if you are like me and just like to read neat little books about plants in different places in the world and this one has really great pictures to help you recognize the plants. I highly recommend it.
